WWE Rumors: Former AEW Tag Champs Reportedly Could Soon Be Targeted In Free Agency

WWE has been on a spree to sign former AEW superstars upon their free agency. Following the acquisition of multiple names, the next one on their radar is reportedly a top tag team.

In a new report by Dave Meltzer, Private Party members Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen’s contracts are set to expire “very soon.” In a follow-up to that, Fightful stated that WWE has shown interest in signing them even before they became aware of their contractual situation. The report also added that there was no word regarding the Stamford-based promotion approaching them or AEW offering them new contracts.

The dynamic tag team was a top fixture in the division for AEW. The duo even captured the AEW World Tag Team Championships on one occasion. This came when they defeated The Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) at Fright Night Dynamite in October 2024, after several attempts to claim the gold.

Veteran wrestler and former AEW star Matt Hardy also commented on their title reign during the latest edition of his ‘Extreme Life with Matt Hardy’ podcast. The former multi-time WWE Tag Team Champion had a brief tenure with the team. Hardy believed that following their match with The Bucks, they should have been booked better, given the huge ovation they received.

Hardy said, “I would have liked to see their title run optimized, I would’ve like to seen it utilized in a better fashion. I would’ve liked to see them become legit cornerstones of the tag team division. I think following up the match with the Young Bucks where they got a huge reaction and it was very organic when the crowd reacted, I really think there was something you could’ve built on and that could’ve made them legitimate stars.”

Private Party’s last appearance was on the January 22, 2025, episode of AEW Dynamite. The duo defended their AEW World Tag Team titles against Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin of The Hurt Syndicate. A dominating performance, so Lashley and Benjamin dethroned them for the titles. With Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen’s contracts reportedly coming up, they could be excellent additions to WWE’s tag team division should they choose to head to the big leagues.
