Quick Results:

  • LA Knight once again defeated Santos Escobar. Post-match, Knight was attacked by Logan Paul.
  • The Bloodline (Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga) ran the tag team gauntlet to become #1 contenders. Eliminations were as follows:
  • Legado Del Fantasma (by Apollo Crews and Baron Corbin)
  • Corbin and Crews (by the Street Profits)
  • Pretty Deadly (by the Profits)
  • The OC (by the Profits)
  • Street Profits (winner: The Bloodline).
  • Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton were victorious over Bayley and Michin in our main event.

Best Match:

If you know me, you know I am a tag team fan. And the gauntlet dominated much of the show. So, for me, that gets the nod here, and I am perfectly fine with that. It sets up a very interesting title match-DIY defending against some combo of Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa or Jacob Fatu. Tall task for the champs, but I would not be shocked if they retained. Then again, a Cleveland guy (Johnny Gargano) failing in front of his home town? It would be very on brand for the city.

Noteworthy Moments

Tanga Loa couldn’t wrestle, selling the eye injury from last week. So, we went Freebird rules and got Jacob Fatu instead. Granted, Freebird rules were for title defenses, but perhaps we will see that soon? But it was notable for me because Nick Aldis had just told Solo that the Bloodline was no longer in the gauntlet due to the eye injury and basically they had the night off. With little pleading, things changed and Aldis didn’t seem to mind. It was odd.

Highlights

Some fun non-wrestling stuff tonight, especially on a taped show. Liked how Solo kicked it off. Logan Paul is making us expect some grand entrance in his former home town, and him losing the title to Knight in Browns Stadium will be glorious. Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair traded blows with the Unholy Union, so those belts are wanted…by a few. Terence Crawford had a nice cameo, though Austin Theory may not concur.

One more SmackDown and it’s time for SummerSlam. Which makes me think the summer is over, because in my head SummerSlam was always like the last weekend of August (I know it isn’t always, but growing up, I always got to watch/listen to the scrambled feed when vacationing at the Jersey shore. Childhood memories!). Regardless, the biggest party of the summer is very nearly here!
