Rey Mysterio’s incomparable run in professional wrestling is “really close” to ending, according to the WWE legend.
This is a unique time in professional wrestling as some iconic names have been given special send-offs. A few years ago, Ric Flair took part in his “retirement” match in his 70s. WCW great Sting got a fantastic farewell match in AEW last year. WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is taking part in what is supposed to be his final match next week at Saturday Night’s Main Event. And WWE GOAT John Cena is halfway through a year-long retirement tour.
Well, Rey Mysterio could be the next wrestling immortal to give a final goodbye to the wrestling ring.
“Oh, it’s definitely really close [retirement]. It’s really close, but at the same time, I’m so motivated,” Mysterio told the host of “Unmasked and Unfiltered” recently. “A lot of people ask me, ‘What keeps you going?’ I think that once my son started to wrestle, that kind of pushed me to continue.

“Because I was really getting very close to calling it quits. But that just kind of gave me that second wind, and it pushed me to keep going. To be honest, I know I’m going to still enjoy it when I retire, but I’m going to have to tap out,” he added. “I still love what I do and I always have.”
While Mysterio is still a very talented performer in the ring, he will turn 51 in December and has been in the business for over 30 years. He is pushing the very limits of his body. And the many injuries he has incurred over the last few years have proven that.
Based on this comment, it would not be surprising if Rey Mysterio gets a big retirement angle in 2026.
