WWE Playing With Fire? Karrion Kross Reportedly Just Weeks Away From Hitting Free Agency

Karrion Kross has experienced unexpected popularity in WWE over the last six months. Despite the fans showing huge support for him recently, Kross has not been pushed by the regime and is nearing his exit.

According to Fightful Select, Kross and his wife, Scarlett Bordeaux’s WWE contracts are set to expire next month. The outlet’s talks with sources gave them the impression that the duo would stay with the company. This assumption comes after regular appearances on Monday Night RAW over the last month, the availability of new merchandise, and a recent match at Night of Champions.

Karrion Kross’s new surge in fan interest is not due to his in-ring matches. But captivating backstage antics and interactions with WWE superstars. It has created roaring support for the former NXT Champion on social media and at live shows. Moreover, a campaign even started on social media where the fans wanted him to see become Mr. Money in the Bank this year.

However, to their disappointment, Kross was not even a part of the qualifying matches. That did not derail his momentum. It could have been the potential reason for WWE booking him in a featured match at their recent Premium Live Event, Night of Champions. He wrestled Sami Zayn in a losing effort but received praise for the match.

WWE had the chance to mark his ascension with a win over Zayn at Night of Champions. But they chose to award the win to “The Underdog from the Underground”. This could also be a major hint that he might be let go from WWE when his contract expires.

Should that happen, it could lead to a huge uproar among the fan base, which has been advocating for Kross’s push for months. This could create a similar scenario to what happened when R-Truth’s release took place. Moreover, WWE might lose a star in the making, who has been perceived as a top attraction since his days in NXT.

Kross’s release could open the opportunity for WWE’s rival competitor, AEW, to sign him to its roster. The former NXT Champion’s new drawing power could be highly beneficial for All Elite Wrestling while being a massive blow to WWE.
