Smackdown Live (10/23/2018): Recap & Results

Ringside Intel brings you live play-by-play, results and viewing party for tonight’s Smackdown Live (10/23/2018) broadcast. Pre-show starts at 7:50 pm EST and the main show starts at 8 pm EST. Smackdown Live: 8 pm EST

Show opens up and New Day comes out and questions why Big Show attacked them and cost them their Tag Team Championships last week. Then Tag Champs The Bar come out with Big Show. Big Show ends up facing Xavier Woods in a match and chokeslamming him over and over. Eventually everyone runs in and there’s a brawl, resulting in The Bar and Big Show standing triumphantly over top a battered and beaten-down New Day.

Tag Team Match: The Usos vs. WWE Champion AJ Styles & Daniel Bryan

Bell sounds and Bryan locks up with Jimmy Uso. Everyone ends up in the ring and Styles and Bryan clear The Usos out of the ring. The crowd does a “Yes” chant. Commercial break.

Back again and The Usos have Bryan isolated in their corner, cycling tags and beating him down. Finally Bryan manages to collide with Jimmy Uso ansd both men are down. Bryan tags Styles, who comes in hot and starts taking it to the Usos. Styles nails Jey with a fireman’s-carry neckbreaker for a 2-count. Styles looks for the finish but Jey evades. Styles transitions in the Calf Crusher but Jimmy comes in and saves him. Everyone is back in the ring and Styles ends up hitting Bryan with an accidental pele kick.

Jey hits the big frog splash on Styles for the 3-count.

Winners: The Usos

Styles and Bryan give each other dirty looks after the match.

Bryan suggests he thinks Styles pele kicked him on purpose and does a Pinnochio reference when Styles protests.

They show a segment of Charlotte giving a bunch of Performance Center recruits a motivational talk. Smackdown Women’s Champ Becky Lynch busts in and starts crapping all over Charlotte’s point of view and then attacks her in front of everybody. They are eventually pulled apart, with Charlotte screaming “Who are you?!” and Becky screaming back “I’m the Smackdown Women’s Champion!”

Singles Match: Rusev vs. Aiden English

Match gets underway and English gets Rusev stunned. Then English starts taunting Lana and Rusev flips outs and hits him with a Machka Kick. Rusev slaps on the Accolade and forces English to tap out. Rusev holds the lock a little longer before letting it go.

Winner: Rusev

The Miz comes out for an edition of Miz TV. He invites out his guest, Rey Mysterio Jr. Miz asks Rey why he’s back. Rey is about to answer but Miz cuts him off and says he already knows why. It’s because Rey wants to prove that the little guy can be a champ among the big guys… How very 90s of him, says Miz. Miz says the audience is interested in larger than life stars like himself. The crowd boos. He repeats it for clarity and they boo even harder. Miz says he’s the best in the world and the crowd boos with all their might.

Miz says Rey must be disappointed. Rey says he is… because he wanted to be on Truth TV. Miz says he’s thinking about cancelling Rey’s interview right now. Rey says that’s okay, he didn’t come back to be on some dusty talk show. He came to compete. So he calls Miz out for fight right now. Miz says no one here wants them the fight. The crowd cheers and chants “Yes!” Miz takes a cheap shot at Rey but Rey fights him off and Miz takes off in retreat before Rey can mount his offense.

Singles Match: The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.

Smackdown General Manager Paige made the match during the commercial. Rey has some success early on and does some nifty moves, but Miz gains control and slows things down a few notches. Miz employs a methodical pace as he wears Rey down with shots and slaps on a rear chin-lock. Rey ends up pulling a unique transition and going for a 619, but Miz evades and spikes him with a DDT and a near-fall as it cuts to commercial.

Back again and Miz lands his It Kicks and punishes Rey with attacks. He looks for a Skull-Crushing Finale off the top rope but Rey throws him to the canvas. Rey hits a sitting senton and then a kick to the head. Rey goes on a roll but Miz finds an opening and takes control again. Miz looks for an Alabama Slam but Rey counters and hits a 619. Rey drops the dime and that’s a wrap.

Winner: Rey Mysterio Jr.

Tag Team Match: Naomi & Asuka vs. Sonya Deville & Mandy Rose

Before the match can get started, the IIconics come out and start cutting a promo about how they’re going to win the battle royal at Evolution this Sunday. Then Lana comes out. And Carmella. Everyone ends up brawling in the ring so they can hype the battle royal.

Shane McMahon comes out to the ring. He puts over Evolution this Sunday and says it’s “well deserved”. Then he talks about the World Cup Tournament at Crown Jewel and wonders who the “best in the world” might turn out to be. The crowd chants “CM Punk” and Shane says he doesn’t think Punk’s in the tournament. Then Shane introduces the main event for tonight.

Singles Match: Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton

Bell sounds and they lock up. Orton takes control early and smashes Jeff up against the steel steps at ringside. Orton repeatedly bashes Jeff’s head against the steps and then tosses him back in the ring. Orton pins but Jeff kicks out. Orton continues to wear Jeff down with shots and holds. Orton stomps relentlessly on Jeff, who hangs upside down from the turnbuckle. Then Orton yanks on Jeff’s earring. He takes Jeff outside and drops him on the announce table. Jeff bounces off the desk.

Orton pins him in the ring and gets a near-fall. Orton goes after the ear again and Jeff fights back and starts his comeback. Jeff goes for a Twist of Fate but Orton counters. Jeff runs up the turnbuckle and hits Whisper In The Wind on Orton for a 2-count. Jeff hits a Twist of Fate and goes for the Swanton Bomb. Orton rolls out to ringside. Jeff goes for a Swanton off the apron instead but Orton moves and Jeff lands flat-back on the floor. Orton drags Jeff back into the ring.

Orton looks for the end. He goes for an RKO but Jeff hits a backslide. They scramble and Orton hits the RKO out of nowhere after all for the victory.

Winner: Randy Orton
