Ronday Rousey: Raw’s New “Face That Runs The Place”

Ronday Rousey: Raw’s New “Face That Runs The Place”

Who knew a woman would be the one to save a show, but amongst the terrible creative angles on Monday Night RAW, plummeting ratings, as well as poor attendance records; the Red Brand feels like a sinking ship.

Last night wasn’t the best RAW to date; however, it wasn’t the worst and far better than the waste of three hours from the week prior. Having said that, it felt very much like the females, led by RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, are taking over. And rightfully, they are proving to be the highlight of Monday Night RAW.

Much like we’ve seen the WWE do in the past with Roman Reigns, Rousey was sprinkled everywhere within the three-hour broadcast: from the opening segment, to backstage promos deciding on a partner, and then the grand finale by closing with a tag match. To be quite frank, I found Rousey’s storyline to be the best part of the show, and marveled in the incredible build up around her Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (TLC) championship match.

From her in-ring technique, to promos, Rousey is shining as one of the brightest stars on Monday Night RAW, right now.

In general, the women having been killing it within both brands, with the wrestling world abuzz when it comes to Becky Lynch, and what she’s doing over at SmackDown LIVE. The inter-brand rivalry between her, Charlotte Flair, Ronda, and Nia Jax have kept the WWE Universe not only glued to their television sets during their segments, but also social media, with well-crafted banter from all four ladies; albeit, The Man is certainly leading the pack.

Amongst a brand currently plagued with injuries, and many male talents placed on the sidelines due to sickness or condition, one of RAW’s weaknesses right now is compelling programs to draw audiences in. Fans are tuning out, because other than the women, and say the Dean Ambrose versus Seth Rollins rivalry, RAW has lacked luster completely and feels like a waste of an evening when you tune.

Last night felt a little better, a focus on Ronda Rousey’s arc, with a little Ambrose/Rollins action stuck in between, the show’s flow improved. Sure, there was that cheesy Drew McIntyre Appreciation Night (which flopped, and it’s certainly not McIntyre’s fault), the women were able to send RAW to a close with a bang; therefore, not all was lost.

If WWE Creative can continue to help further Rousey’s storyline, building her as the main focal point of not only the women’s division, but the main roster as whole, then RAW may have some hope heading into the Road to Wrestlemania season and beyond. And if the idea is for Rousey to close Wrestlemania 35, then placing her as the “Face That Runs The Place” for Monday Night RAW is the perfect way to help set her up for this coveted WWE accomplishment.
