NXT Takeover WarGames (8/17/2018) Play By Play Coverage

Before the confirmed matches begin, Matt Riddle heads out. He calls Kassius Ohno out and we have an impromptu match to start the show.

Matt Riddle vs. Kassius Ohno

Knee to the face and Riddle gets the win in seconds.

Winner: Matt Riddle

Two out of three falls match for the NXT Women’s Championship: Shayna Baszler vs. Kairi Sane

With the referee distracted, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke help Baszler get a quick submission to go up 1-0. Sane takes all three out with an elbow drop to the outside. Back in the ring and Sane ties it up 1-1 with another elbow drop. Shafir and Duke with more interface before Dakota Kai and Io Shirai even the odds. Sane goes for the elbow drop again and gets caught in a pin to give Baszler the win at 2-1.

Winner: Shayna Blaszler to remain NXT Women’s Champion

Aleister Black vs. Johnny Gargano

Lots of MMA style strikes mixed with highflying from black while there are some mind games from Gargano. They go back and forth, with both landing some big spots. Black sits in the ring and tells Gargano to hit him with the best shot, but it was a trap. Gargano ask for Black Mass but it was also a trick and he locks in the submission. A pair of Black Masses and it is over.

Winner: Aleister Black


NXT Championship: Tommaso Ciampa vs. Velveteen Dream

Velveteen Dream comes out dressed like Hollywood Hulk Hogan and doing all the gestures. Dream is hitting all of Hogan’s spots. Throughout the match, Dream channels moves from the likes of Ric Flair and Bret Hart as he works on the injured knee. Ciampa nearly steals the win with a handful of tights before the referee spots it. Project Ciampa only gets a two count. DDT on the title and Ciampa kicks out. Ciampa loses his boot after getting his own DDT. Ciampa reveals the concrete on the outside and gets caught with a death vally driver. Dream follows with a top rope elbow drop for a two count. Ciampa is on the apron and Dream goes for another top rope elbow. The second one misses and Ciampa brings the action back in the ring. Ciampa with a DDT on the steel separating the two rings and it’s enough for a three count.

Winner: Tommaso Ciampa to remin NXT Champion


WarGames Match: The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong) vs. Pete Dunne, Ricochet & War Raiders (Hanson & Rowe)

Undisputed Era have the numbers advantage and there are problems between War Raiders and Pete Dunne. Both teams trade control as the numbers fluctuate. Bobby Fish gets out of the shark cage and uses the lock to keep Dunne in his shark cage. He tosses the key into the crowd and brings chairs inside WarGames for the Undisputed Era. Dunne is stuck in the cage and Undisputed Era are picking apart Ricochet and War Raiders. Bolt cutters get Dunne out of the shark cage. He limps to the ring and tosses in several weapons before finally entering WarGames. Undisputed Era have Dunne in one ring and are keeping their opponents away. Ricochet is tossed into the second ring to break up the submission on Dunne. Fish spears Rowe through a table. Hanson splashes O’Reily through the other table. Ricochet and Adam Cole battle atop the cage. Tower of doom spot with Cole taking the worst bump. Ricochet is still on top of the cage and flips off to drop everyone. Both teams meet in the middle and start throwing fists. Double team work by Dunne and Ricochet on Cole. Both pin Cole to get the victory.

Winners: Pete Dunne, Ricochet & War Raiders (Hanson & Rowe)
