NXT Takeover: Phoenix (1/26/2019) Coverage & Viewing Party

NXT Tag Team Championship: The Undisputed Era (Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong) vs. War Raiders (Hanson & Rowe)

Plenty of double team work by everyone. Hanson misses a cannonball to the outside and Rowe is on his own for a bit. War Raiders nearly get the win on several occasions and the crowd is loving the match. High low from Strong & O’Reilly only gets a two count. The second misses and War Raiders hit their finish to capture the titles from Undisputed Era.

Winners: War Raiders to become the new NXT Tag Team Champions

Matt Riddle vs. Kassius Ohno

Ohno will look for his first Takeover win and try to finally defeat Matt Riddle. Ohno stomps on Riddle and even bites his toes. Riddle locks wraps around Ohno’s body are starts firing elbow shots. Ohno taps to the strikes.

Winner: Matt Riddle

Although he is not advertised or booked, Velveteen Dream is shown entering the building with some followers.


NXT North American Championship: Ricochet vs. Johnny Gargano

These two are no strangers, having met many times on the Indy scene. Impressive moonsault by Ricochet from the apron to the outside. Hurricanrana off the top rope by Gargano and Ricochet somehow lands his feet. Ricochet flies over the rope and steel post to take out Gargano. He follows with a 450 splash for a two count in an insane combo. What a match and Gargano starts removing the pad on the outside as he can’t defeat Ricochet. Gargano goes for the DDT on the concrete floor, but changes his mind. Gargano snaps and drops Ricochet with a suplex on the exposed floor. Gargano follows with a DDT in the ring to win the title.

Winner: Jonny Gargano to become the new NXT North American Champion


NXT Women’s Championship: Shayna Baszler vs. Bianca Belair

On the outside, Baszler uses Belair’s hair to toss her into the steel post. Baszler focuses on the arm after stomping on it. Belair leaves a mark after whipping Baszler with the hair. The referee is down and Baszler has the three count. Marina Shafir & Jessamyn Duke get involved and Belair fights them off. Baszler gets the choke, but his shaken off. Belair somewhat botches a 450 splash off the top rope and another choke. Belair hangs on for a decent amount of time before passing out.

Winner: Shayna Baszler to remain NXT Women’s Champion


NXT Championship: Tommaso Ciampa vs. Aleister Black

Early in the match, Black goes over the top rope and seems to have tweaked his knee. On the outside and Ciampa works on the leg of Black. At this point, Black is one leg. Ciampa with Tower of London on the apron for a two count. Ciampa used the referee and nearly stole the win. Black Mass doesn’t work as the leg has taken too much damage. A fourth fairytale ending gives Ciampa the win.

Winner: Tommaso Ciampa to remain NXT Champion

As Ciampa stands atop the ramp, out comes Gargano with his newly won North American Championship. They stare each other down. Gargano raises his belt and Ciampa follows. Both have a smirk on their faces as the camera fades to black.
