‘-By now, everyone knows that Roman Reigns shocked the wrestling world with his announcement on Monday night. Reigns told the world that, after eleven years, the leukemia we didn’t know he had, had come back. As a result, he surrendered his Universal Championship and turned plans upside down for WWE Creative.
As more and more news filters out from RAW, it’s becoming clear (thanks to PWInsider) that virtually no one knew what Reigns was going to announce-until he did. The belief is that a very small and highly placed circle within WWE knew what Roman’s announcement was going to be prior to 9:00pm Monday night.
It is believed that only Reigns’ closest friends, along with a group including Vince McMahon, knew what Roman Reigns was going to tell the world. Also worth noting, Vince was not at RAW on Monday. So in the backstage video that was shown, we got to see the emotions from people who worked with Roman and were just blindsided by the stunning news. The raw emotion is plain to see, and you get the sense of just how well liked Reigns is backstage.
-Evolution, WWE’s first ever all women PPV, happens this Sunday. One of the major matches scheduled for Sunday’s show is a tag team match featuring Hall of Famers Lita and Trish Stratus taking on the team of Alexa Bliss and Mickie James. Now, PWInsider is reporting that WWE has longer term plans for both Hall of Fame talents.
At a minimum, WWE plans to make use of both Lita and Trish Stratus at other major PPVs throughout the year, such as Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. While both have been around and made appearances for the company, it sounds like the plans include a return to the ring for special matches. This could be exciting, but it does make you ask a question: as when WWE brings back part time or retired male Superstars (Hunter, HBK, Undertaker, The Rock), fans love it…but by doing it, is WWE hampering the current top stars?
