‘- With All Elite Wrestling (AEW) showing positive signs, there is talk that several WWE superstars could make the jump when their contracts are up. One of the biggest stars with a contract set to shortly expire is AJ Styles.
“AJ Styles’ deal is up pretty soon and they know him,” said Dave Meltzer during the Wrestling Observer Radio. “They’re good friends with AJ and it’s really up to AJ but it does give him. I will say this AJ’s got a hell of a lot of leverage right now because AJ’s a key guy and All Elite would offer him a great deal for sure and an easier schedule.”
Meltzer continued that since most of the top names signed to AEW know Styles, it helps his odds of signing with the upstart promotion. Besides Styles, Kenny Omega is another high profile name both WWE and AEW want to sign.
If AEW can secure Styles and Omega, that would seem to place them in-track to change the wrestling world.
– Braun Strowman has a major opportunity at the Royal Rumble as he challenges Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. But as of right now, Strowman has not been cleared for physical contact. With the event three weeks away, PWInsider Elite noted that he should be good to go when the match goes down.
Still, WWE has to be somewhat worried as Strowman has missed around six weeks of action after needing to have bone spurs cleaned off is elbow. He worked TLC against Baron Corbin, but WWE booked the match so there was no physicality. Lesnar and Strowman were set to have a face-off on RAW, although the angle was written where only a few words were traded.
Strowman vs. Lesnar has been done twice before, with “The Beast” leaving as champion each time. The Royal Rumble is January 27 and comes from Arizona’s Chase Field.
