Devin Haney vs Jose Ramirez Preview

For all purposes, this is almost a forgone conclusion and just a way to keep Haney and Garcia active to set up the rematch. Garcia is also suspended at the moment, which makes putting him and Haney together right now dangerous. Instead, it will be Ramirez given the opportunity to play spoiler.

Ramirez, a 32-year-old from California, represented the United States at the 2012 Summer Olympics and is a former unified championship at light welterweight. He is 29-2 overall, but is coming off a decision loss to Arnold Barboza Jr.

During his career, Ramirez has bested the likes of Richard Commey, Jose Pedraza and Vikor Postol. He lost the light welterweight titles in 2021 to Josh Taylor, suffering his first loss in 26 pro fights.

Haney won the WBC super lightweight title in 2023 and was set to defend it vs. Garcia this past April. However, Garcia missed weight and the result of the fight – which was originally a majority decision for Garcia – was overturned due to a failed drug test.

With wins over Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. in his career, many consider Haney – who is 31-0 with the one no-contest – one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world. He owns 15 knockout wins to his resume, but has not recorded one since 2019.

Even without a long highlight reel of knockouts, Haney’s skill and consistent ability to outclass his opposition has made him one of boxing’s biggest and most talented fighters. Having similar success in a heavier division only cements his place even further and he continues to add to an already impressive resume.
